I've known Carlo Orsi for a long time, ever since the early 1960s, when he was a very young assistant to Ugo Mulas. Over time, our connection grew stronger, with almost daily meetings and conversations. I had moved to Via Lamarmora 15, into a spacious ground-floor studio that opened onto a large inner courtyard—and just upstairs was Carlo’s studio.
Arnaldo Pomodoro
Carlo Orsi was a close friend and longtime companion of Arnaldo Pomodoro, documenting his work with dedication since the 1960s—through the creation of the Foundation and beyond. Arnaldo Pomodoro always expressed deep affection for Carlo. His photographs are among the most capable of capturing the essence and grandeur of Pomodoro’s sculptures, paying tribute not only to the artist’s extraordinary work, but also to the enduring friendship that united them.
Arnaldo Pomodoro (1926-2025) was one of the most important contemporary Italian sculptors. Active from the 1950s onward, he developed a distinctive sculptural language, characterized by complex three-dimensional structures—often on a monumental scale—interrupted by intricate internal textures. Emerging to the surface, these inner forms create striking visual and conceptual contrasts between exterior and interior, perfection and irregularity, order and disorder. His works are displayed in public spaces and museums around the world, from Rome to New York, from Milan to Tokyo. He took part in major international exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale and Documenta in Kassel. Since 1995, he dedicated himself to the preservation and promotion of his artistic legacy through the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro.
